Frequently Asked Questions

If there is anything else you would like to know before booking a class, please get in touch and we will be happy to help.
What age children are the classes for?
Paper Scissors Squad classes are designed for children aged 4–12.
To make sure activities are engaging and appropriately challenging, classes are divided into two age groups:
- 4–6 year olds
- 7–12 year olds
You can view each activity to find out more about what children can expect from their sessions.
What does STEAM mean?
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths.
At Paper Scissors Squad, these subjects are explored through creative, hands-on activities rather than formal classroom-style lessons.
A child might build something, test an idea, experiment with materials or solve a simple design problem while creating their project.
The emphasis is always on having fun, exploring and learning through doing.
Does my child need to be good at art or crafts?
Absolutely not.
Paper Scissors Squad is about exploring creativity rather than producing something perfect.
Children are encouraged to try things for themselves, experiment with ideas and work at their own pace. There is no “wrong” way to be creative, and no child is expected to make exactly the same thing as everybody else.
Having a go is far more important than getting everything right.
Do we need to bring any craft materials?
No. Everything needed for the planned activity will be prepared and provided.
Children simply need to arrive ready to create, experiment and have fun.
If a particular session ever requires something from home, parents will be told beforehand.
What should my child wear?
Creativity can sometimes get messy!
We recommend children wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting a little paint, glue or general crafting evidence on.
What happens during a typical class?
Every session follows a gentle structure so children know what to expect without the class feeling rigid.
Sessions normally include a welcome and introduction to the day’s activity, followed by plenty of hands-on creating.
Depending on the age group and activity, there may also be movement breaks, questions and discussion before finishing with time to reflect on what the children have explored.
Each session ends with a short calm-down period before children leave.
What if my child is shy or lacks confidence?
That is absolutely fine.
Some children cannot wait to get involved, while others prefer to watch and settle in before joining an activity.
Carol’s approach is patient, gentle and encouraging. Children are never rushed or compared with others, and each child is given the time and support they need to feel comfortable.
The aim is for every child to feel welcome and proud of what they achieve.
Can you support children with autism or additional needs?
Carol holds a Level 2 TQUK Understanding Autism qualification, and Paper Scissors Squad is being designed with the understanding that every child experiences activities and environments differently.
A quiet area is available for children who may feel overstimulated or simply need a few minutes away from the main activity.
Tasks can also be adapted where appropriate to help children participate at their own level.
If your child has particular needs that Carol should know about, we encourage you to get in touch before their first session so these can be discussed.
